the speed you need

Cirrus offers you the smartest and most efficient turbo available – giving you the speed you need and access to the flight levels to get over terrain and weather at your command. Finally, not just a turbo, but a total package that gives you incredible performance combined with the comfort you'd expect to find in a luxury car.

At Cirrus, we don't claim to have the fastest turbo on the market. We pride ourselves on being honest about the speeds our customers will see with our SR22 and SR22 Turbo aircraft.

As you can see, the speeds of the SR22 and SR22 Turbo are impressive by any standards, with cylinder head temperatures below 380° and fuel flows of only 17.5 gph.

Having a personal aircraft that can routinely do over 200 kts is to cross a "threshold" in performance so that the airplane becomes the transportation method of choice for the typical owner.

TURBO TIP For Smart Buyers

Before you buy a turbo from another manufacturer, ask yourself a few questions to find out if the speed is safe for the engine.

  • How are their high altitude speeds achieved?
  • Do these speed claims require high power, high fuel flow, and high CHTs?
  • Where will you typically operate -- in the 11,000 - 18,000 ft range?
  • How does their turbocharged aircraft compare to the Cirrus Turbo when operating at similar conditions for power, fuel flow, altitude, and the very important engine CHTs?

While some manufacturers boast top speeds in the 230 kts range, look a little closer and you'll find disclaimers in their POH about how those speeds may be in an operating and temperature range that may not be safe for the engine. Speeds like these can be achieved only by climbing to 25,000 ft on a perfect day. Most pilots flying turbocharged aircraft, however, will operate in the 11,000 - 18,000 ft range where unrealistic speed claims of other manufacturers are not realizable and their aircraft perform 20-30 kts slower than the 230+ kts speed their customers were promised in their ads.
